Nikka Whisky Distilling Co. was founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru — the father of Japanese whisky, who had trained in Scotland and returned to Japan with the knowledge to build a domestic whisky industry. The company operates two Japanese whisky distilleries: Yoichi in Hokkaido (established 1934), built to replicate the maritime, peated character of Scottish distilling, and Miyagikyo in Sendai (established 1969), built as a lighter, more elegant counterpart. Nikka also owns Ben Nevis Distillery in Scotland (acquired 1989). Gold & Gold Samurai draws on this dual distillery heritage in a premium blended format developed specifically for the international travel retail market, giving it an appeal as both a genuine collector’s expression and a premium gift beyond standard Japanese whisky retail.
