Herradura Legend Anejo Tequila

Herradura Legend Añejo is a special añejo produced from 100% Blue Weber agave, naturally fermented, distilled, and matured 14 months in new, heavily charred, deeply grooved barrels — the grooves increasing the barrel’s interior surface area to dramatically amplify oak contact, producing the exceptional depth of color and velvety smooth taste that standard smooth-interior barrels cannot achieve at the same age.

The deeply grooved barrel is the production innovation that defines Legend: by cutting grooves into the interior of the new heavily charred barrels, Herradura exposes significantly more of the charred oak surface area to the tequila than a standard barrel provides. Greater surface area means more extractable compounds per unit of time — more color, more vanilla, more caramel, and more of the char’s specific flavor contributions. At 14 months in grooved new barrels, Legend achieves a richness of color and depth of oak character that would normally require much longer aging in standard barrels. The result is a dramatically different product from the standard Herradura Añejo — darker, richer, and more intensely oaked at a similar age point, while the 100% Blue Weber agave and Herradura’s traditional production methods provide the tequila foundation underneath.
