Del Maguey Tobaziche Mezcal
$119.99
Del Maguey Tobaziche is a special limited edition Vino de Mezcal series expression from Marcos Cruz — son of Paciano Cruz Nolasco, the maestro of San Luis Del Rio — made entirely from wild Tobaziche agave, a member of the Karwinskii upright cylindrical family closely related to Madrecuixe, roasted underground in the centuries-old tradition, fermented in open wooden tanks with ambient wild yeasts, and distilled to proof in copper alembic stills.
Tobaziche’s corazon is the trunk of the plant — the elongated cylindrical body of the Karwinskii rather than the compact globe of Espadin. Marcos Cruz brings his father’s San Luis Del Rio production heritage to a different agave variety, producing a mezcal that showcases what the Karwinskii family contributes when the agave is wild-grown and the production is traditional: incredibly sweet fruit notes and a rich yet soft mid-palate with exceptional mineral complexity, the characteristic green herb and capsicum of Tobaziche, and an unmistakable zingy quality that makes it one of the most energetic and memorable expressions in the Del Maguey portfolio.
