Chichibu is Japan’s smallest active distillery, founded in 2008 by Ichiro Akuto after rescuing rare casks from his family’s closed Hanyu Distillery. The 2019 US Edition is peated and aged in a combination of bourbon barrels and port pipes.

Chichibu produces among the most sought-after Japanese whisky released each year. The distillery’s tiny scale — annual production is a fraction of Suntory or Nikka — means every bottling is limited. The US Edition was designed with American bourbon drinkers in mind: the bourbon barrel maturation provides vanilla and caramel character familiar to bourbon drinkers, while the peating and port pipe finishing add complexity.
