La Medida Mezcal Madrecuishe is a wild-varietal artisanal mezcal from the La Medida brand led by Julián Vidal Gómez Rodríguez — an unsung icon of Oaxacan mezcal for 40+ years. Madrecuishe (Agave karwinskii) is a long-stemmed wild agave varietal with thick fibers — prized for the mineral, elegant, and slightly earthier mezcal it produces compared to the cultivated Espadin.

Karwinskii varietals take 12–20 years to mature and are wild-harvested rather than cultivated. La Medida’s collaborative approach across multiple Oaxacan producer communities (including Don Celso’s co-founding involvement) gives access to these wild varietals through traditional small-batch production. The Madrecuishe expression sits among the more sought-after single-varietal artisanal mezcal bottlings.
